Sparks fly when Chance meets tall, sexy Xav at a Wilmington bar and they have the hottest one-nighter of their lives. But Chance doesn’t do repeats, Xav seems detached, and they go their separate ways without a word. Later, when closeted Assistant District Attorney C. Evan “Chance” Fairchild meets Dare's Landing's newest deputy sheriff, Xavier “Xav” Constantine, Evan isn’t only wary. He’s irritated as hell.

Xavier is a former FBI agent turned deputy sheriff who is hot on the trail of a South American child prostitution ring. Evan is fighting to put an end to rampant cocaine trafficking and chafing under the thumb of an election-hungry boss. When someone tries to kill the eleven-year-old witness who holds the key to both their investigations, they’re forced to work together as they put their lives on the line to protect him. As Chance and Xav collide in the heat of a sweltering North Carolina summer, dodging bullets and chasing bad guys isn’t the only action going on.

A Solitary Man edition by Shira Anthony Aisling Mancy Literature Fiction eBooks

This is the very first book I’ve read by Shira Anthony and Aisling Mancy. With books being so expensive, I’ve gotten very picky about what new authors I would spend my money on. I love books and would love to buy anything that strikes my fancy but that simply isn’t possible. Lol. I have read other authors who write about M/M romance so this would not be my first time reading one but it’s always a crapshoot if you find a book that really is well worth your time and effort. And I can say wholeheartedly that this was.

It starts off a bit slow in the beginning as we get to know the main characters but speeds up once they get together. Xav (got to love that name) and Chance have chemistry from the get go and their relationship only gets stronger as they pulled together their resources to combat a true evil, the selling off of children for rape, because that is what is going on. So as a reader of romance, I think the sex was hot but the love’s even better. Most people think that sex between men is wrong and I won’t even speak to that because I believe, love is love is love no matter who or what so long as it’s consensual and between adults. That being said, I really love the love between these two men and how the writers demonstrate how it only enhances their ability to do what’s right. Chance is the rule abiding one while Xav is a bit of the maverick but together, they are a crime fighting duo who are lucky enough to have a great team to back them up. I love Twyla Fay, Sheriff Winston, Deputy Carson, and Quinn to name a few. They all left an indelible mark in my book filled brain. By the middle of the book, I was trying to read every time I had any opportunity .during the very busy holiday season, I couldn’t wait to read more and more and by the end, I was satisfied with my HEA and kind of sad to see it end. Will this be a keeper book? Yes. And I look forward to reading even more from this great writing team too!!

A Solitary Man edition by Shira Anthony Aisling Mancy Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This is an action packed story that will take you on an extremely emotional ride. The writing between the two authors is seamless and I couldn't tell where one ended and the other began. An indication of just how well written this is.

The book deals with the very real, very horrific subject of child sex trafficking, coupled with drug trafficking. Although the subject matters are very serious indeed, there are passages in the book that are so sweet and loving they will absolutely melt your heart. The care that Xav shows for Chance and the abused boys is nothing short of beautiful.

I can't recommend this book enough.
This is the first time I order a book without a look inside first. I have to say I finished this book in 21/2 days. I did figure out who one of the bad guys were immediately. I was very very upset with the atrocities of this world and that this is a reality that is going on . I love the main characters and I love the developing story between them. I also like both men were mature men with issues that each had to be able to trust to open up to each other.

I enjoy the story and it kept me to the edge of my seat. The only thing missing was I wanted to know what happened with the bad men and if one of the bad men was involved or not. I don't want to give the name so that I don't give the plot away.

Enjoyable
This was an amazing story involving a very difficult subject matter of human trafficking of children and drugs. It's harsh, But it's not as descriptive as it could be with the gore. It gives you enough to understand and even that is heartbreaking, but the story is well written with well developed characters. It's told from both Chance/Evan ADA and Xavier a former FBI agent who is now the new Deputy sheriffs point of view. I really liked that this is more a true crimes story. It just happens to have some hot man sex, which is secondary to the crimes in the small coastal town in North Carolina. This is a HFN story. My very first read by this author. I'm hoping there is a book 2 because I'd love to read more about these two awesome men and see them get their HEA. Highly recommend.
I really liked this book. Yes, romance is definitely a secondary storyline, but often enough (not always) I am bored by the pure romance storyline where the guys have nothing else to do in their lives except thinking about each other -). This is a police procedural story that deals with heart breaking subject of children sex trafficking and brave people who try to fight the monsters engaged in this (yeah, I know we all have capacity to do evil in us, but there are certain very small number of crimes which for me puts you in the monster category if you decide to commit those crimes and children sex trafficking for me is one of those crimes). The subject was heartbreaking yes, but there was also kindness and touches of humors and people trying to do police work as best as they could.

And there is some romance in there. Xav and Ethan's meeting actually did remind me of how romance characters meet sometimes, but that's really the only part that reminded me of that. For the most part we see them communicating with each other while they are doing their work. I liked how much Xav wanted to help those kids and how he learned to be grateful if he could save even one child. Sheriff and his people in the small town were very impressive - loved that for once our hero did not have to face homophobic welcome in the small town as it often happens in mm romances. I loved that he was so eager to teach his fellow law enforcement officers how to do their jobs even better and they were eager to learn.
Besides external circumstances there are really not much obstacle that Xav and Ethan face - they really understand fast that they do want each other but as I said, romance is a secondary storyline here. It does have a happy ending though, do not worry.

I would have given this book five stars easily, if that bizarre *one page* of insulting the villain who is transgender did not exist. I mean why? I doubt that authors wanted to be so insulting on purpose. Ignorance? In any event, I was not triggered, but I am not trans and I still loved this book minus that page which had no purpose in the story whatsoever as I could see. Beware if you are.
