I've been an elementary teacher for 20 years. I read this book recently after meeting Debbie Silver at a conference in Hot Springs, Arkansas. She's funny, thoughtful, and right on target. This is a great book for novice teachers as well as master teachers.
My biggest problem with any teaching methods book is that they tend to offer broad advice and an overall concept with very few applicable skills and help - not so with Debbie Silver! This book offers exact, hands-on, practical guides and resources for every classroom (I've worked in both inner-city schools and suburban). I can - and have - returned to this book over and over for help with many issues and have always found the help and tools I can use immediately. Great job, Debbie Silver!!

This is a great book! I chose it for my teachers this year. We are doing a book study during the first semester. There are so many wonderful ideas for teachers and administrators. It is well written and contains a nice balance of stories, examples, theory, and research. I highly recommend this book for educators.
